Short version: Laggy and Underpowered. Returned after 10 days.I wanted to upgrade to a newer tablet from my 1.5 year oldLenovo TAB2 A10 ZA000001US (refered to as Older Tablet) which served me well. The thought was to upgrade to this tablet and sell the old one.I picked this tablet because it seemed to be an updated version of the Older Tablet. I noticed that this model - ZA1U0000US (referred to as Newer Tablet) - had a newer Snapdragon 210 processor and a newer version of the Android OS. I also noticed that it has 1/2 RAM of my previous tablet, but thought it was sufficient given the newer processor.
This tablet is very laggy - you open browser, click on the address bar and the keyboard pops up only after a noticeable delay. It was also having problems rendering Dragonvale game - movement looked choppy. Netflix and YouTube looked OK.I installed GeekBench 4 app and tested both tablets. The Older Tablet's score was 685 vs Newer Tablet's score of 608 - that's 11% lower score. The app showed that the Newer Tablet's processor has slower clock speed than the Older Tablet's one. Slower processor and less RAM - this is what Lenovo came up with as a successor to TAB2???Unfortunately, I could not find any redeeming qualities to the new tablet. Below I will point out the differences between the Older and the Newer Tablet:1.
Newer Tablet has slower processor2. Newer Tablet has less RAM3. Newer Tablet has no headphone jack4. Newer Tablet has no magnetic sensor for the cover. The Older Tablet's screen turns off when the cover is closed, and the screen turns on when I open the cover. On this tablet you have to use the on/off switch to turn it on and off (the screen can be set to time out)5. Position of on/off and volume buttons on the newer tablet is not comfortable (could be subjective).
Older Tablet had straight sides running at 90 degrees to the screen and the back cover, and the buttons were positioned on the sides. The newer tablet has sides that sweep back from the screen and blend into the back cover, and buttons are on the curve.6. Back firing speakers. Both tablets have this shortcoming.
Speakers need to point forward, particularly on an entertainment tablet.Overall, I do not think that this product in any shape or form is an enhancement over the original version. In my view it is a giant leap backwards. I am guessing the positive reviews are from people who did not experience a better tablet. Short version: Laggy and Underpowered. It has better resolution (1920x1200) and has double the RAM (2GB) than the current 'A' model for sale at Lenovo as well as many other similar brands in comparison. The visuals are great and the device has a solid feel to it.
It does have the (5.0.1) version of the Android OS, even though it was advertised as a 4.4 version, sweeeet. That being said, I have no plans for gaming on this tab. Don't use the speakers (weak sound), the headphone has awesome sound with the Dolby Atmos.
I absolutely love this tab, and am glad I didn't spend more on another good and well-known brand.
